The First Amendment

Introduction

Why can newspapers print stories that seem to be false? Why are we allowed to protest outside of government buildings? Both questions can be answered from the first amendment of the US Constitution. There are five main parts of this amendment: freedom of speech, religion, press, petition, and assembly.

Task

 Please do the Following:

  1. Name each freedom specified in the First Amendment.
  2. Provide a descripiton of each guaranteed freedom (at least 3 sentences).

  3. Investigate the first amendment and how it applies to your life.

  4. Number freedoms in order of their importance (in your opinion).

  5. Get in a group of 2 to 3 and create an argument for why you put that freedom there.
