The most popular musical event around the world; "Billboard Music Awards" is coming soon and you are one of the judges!
This 2021, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars were the most voted artists.
So, YOU will be in charge of deciding the winner! 😊
But first, you will need some essential vocabulary:
I am impressed by Bruno Mars performance. I am afraid of Katy Perry's panther.
I don't like Bruno Mars' style. I love Katy Perry's different styles.
I consider that Bruno Mars is the best singer. In my opinion, Katy Perry's high notes are good.
I adore Bruno Mars' movements. I feel that Katy Perry should dance more.
Task
Your duty 🧐
As the principal judge, your job is to decide which artist will be the winner of the Billboard Music Awards in the Pop Music category. This 2021, for this category the nominees are Katy Perry and Bruno Mars. You will have to watch one music video of each one of them and write a critique in which you show your opinions and how you feel watching them.
Then, you will present your winner to your colleagues to take the final decision.

Step 1
Write your opinions and feelings about both videos in a minimum of 7 lines.
You can use the following questions to write your critique:
- What do you think about the lyrics?
- Does the video have a high quality of production?
- Do you like the rhythm and melody?
- Do you consider that the artist did a good performance?
- Are the lyrics and video related?
- Do you like the style and colors?
Step 2
According to your critique, grade the videos from 1 to 7 and decide which artist you consider is the winner of the Billboard Music Awards.
Prepare your presentation to the rest of the judges. You should say which artist is the winner for you, and state your opinions and feelings while you watch the video you choose as the best.
Step 3
Present your decision in front of your colleague judges.
Explain the reasons why you selected the artist, specifying your opinions and feelings about the video in 2-3 minutes.
Step 4
Finally, all the judges have to determine which artist deserves to be the winner and deliver the price.

Teacher note
First of all, we selected the unit "Feelings and Opinions" presented in the Curricular Basis of Chilean Education for this grade. We consider that this topic is one of the most essential aspects that children in this age average have to learn. In addition, it was the unit we found more interactive to perform a motivating and authentic activity.
We decided to work with productive skills since these abilities encourage creativity and personal perspective about students' feelings and opinions. Regarding the writing activity, we selected the OA 15 which is about writing opinions using the vocabulary and structure correctly. Furthermore, for the speaking activity, we selected the OA 8 which indicates that students should be able to present information about different topics using vocabulary that express emotions, opinions, and common words.
Finally, we wanted to follow the structure that the WebQuest give us creating an imaginary situation in which students are the protagonists being the judges of a contest. We look for a meaningful activity that could be useful in other daily situations as well.
