Fantasy Book Club WebQuest

Introduction

Before we begin reading the books we chose, we will take some time to explore and lean more about fantasy books.  Fantasy has a lot of magic, fantastical and mystical creatures, conflicts, and adventures that know no limits.  Fantasy can literally be anything the author or reader can imagine! Use this WebQuest to learn more about and explore the all kinds of characteristics and types of fantasy stories you may come across as you read.  Once you finish, you are ready to start reading your book! 

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will review what they already know about fantasy literature
  • Students will learn the basics about fantasy stories, including types, themes, and characteristics
  • Students will begin to read, review, summarize, and share their chosen story through various activities and a final project
Task

To begin learning more about fantasy stories and to complete this WebQuest:

  1. Create a Google Doc to record and keep track of your information as you work through your WebQuest.  Put your name at the top of the Doc

     
  2. Use the websites provided below (under process) to understand then describe the different characteristics of fantasy.  Be sure to include descriptions of: the plot, characters, setting, style/mood/tone, and theme.

     
  3. Use the websites provided below (under process) and list and describe the different types of fantasy.  Last as many types as you can find.  

     
  4. In your Google Doc, write a paragraph or insert an audio or video recording explaining what you think the most important aspects of fantasy books are.  

     
  5. Begin reading the fantasy book you chose and were assigned!
Process

Create your Google Doc and title it "Fantasy Book Club WebQuest".  You will use this doc to keep track of your WebQuest and take notes to be used later in this unit.
