Exploring the US National Parks

Introduction

There are 63 national parks in the United States. All the parks have different things that make them so unique and special. In this webquest you will choose one national park to research and make. You will be put in groups of two and create a presentation on why this national park should be #1 on everyones list to visit. 

Questions to be answered

Why are national parks so important? 

How do National Parks protect wildlife? 

What about your national park is so special? 

 

 

The students objective is to research and explain the significance of a US National Park. 

 

This WebQuest is in line with the Florida Standards and gives students the opportunity to use critical thinking skills from Bloom's Taxonomy (analyzing, creating, and evaluating) while learning about the national parks. 

Task

You and your partner will pose as park rangers and put together a map/ brochure that provides information on your national park from the location, to it's history, to the absolute must do's while at the park. 

Process

1. You can either choose a park or have one assigned to you : Arches, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Zion, Grand Canyon. 

 

2. With your partner choose who will be creating the map and researching the history and who will be researching plants and animals and putting everything together for the presentation. 

 

3. Create your slideshow - Include a map/location of your park. Include history of the park. 3 species that live within the park. 3 fun facts or must dos while being at the park.

5. Present to your class as if you were giving them a guided tour of your park! You are the park rangers! 

Evaluation

This is going to be 20% of your grade! Be sure to 

  • Give accurate and well researched answers. (25 points)
  • Present in a organized, informative, and easy to follow way. (20 points) 
  • Present an accurate map of your park with species that live within the park. 3 fun facts or must dos while being at the park. (20 points)
  • Students act as the Park Rangers during the presentation, engaging with the class, speaking clearly, and most importantly HAVING FUN!! (20 points)
  • Both partners worked together and equally to create project. (15 points)

Total = 100 points

 

 

Conclusion

Way to go Park Rangers!!! You've completed your task in exploring one of the US amazing national parks and shared with many people what makes it so special and why they should plan their next visit there! 

 

 

This WebQuest gives students the chance to learn about national parks while also using Florida Standards which allows students to use critical thinking.
