Introduction
Welcome First Grade Weather Watchers to our “Explore the Seasons” WebQuest
Take a look outside the classroom window. What do you see? Are there different color leaves on the tree or falling from the tree? Do you see snow on the ground? Each season, as we learned, makes us dress differently for the weather outside. Fall, winter, spring, and summer make up the 4 seasons. Let’s discover together how the weather changes with each season!
Task
As the seasons change so does the weather! We see how the weather changes the trees with each different season. Let’s watch the BrainPop Jr. Video and collect information on the different seasons!
Then start the activity!
Cut out the traced picture of a tree and the photo of you. Then dress your photo to match each season using the handout. Do this for all 4 seasons! (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer)
EXAMPLE: If your photo is dressed wearing a winter hat, gloves, and boots, it would match the tree with no leaves on the branches.
Process
PART 1: WATCH THE VIDEO
First let’s visit the BrainPop Jr website and watch a video about the seasons.
PART 2: THE ACTIVTY
Materials:
- 1 piece of construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Crayons
- 4 pictures of a tree
- 4 photos of you
- 1 handout from Ms. Baldecchi of all different weather clothes
Step 1: Set up your paper!
- Take the construction paper and fold it the long way!
- Fold it again the short way!
- Open it up. Your paper should have 4 boxes.

Step 2: Cut out a photo of yourself and of the tree!
- Baldecchi will give you 4 pictures of YOU. Cut it out carefully. Then, cut out the traced tree trunk and branches out of the construction paper that was given to you. Take your folded construction paper and in the first top box label the season ”Fall” at the top of the page. Now glue the picture of your tree in the box. Now it is time to think about what the branches on the tree looks like. Think about what season you started with.
Think about:
· Is the weather cold outside so there are no leaves on the tree?
· Are the leaves just beginning to grow?
· Which season do you see more green leaves than any other season?
· Is the tree full of red, yellow, and brown color leaves?
Color the tree in once you have decided what your tree's leaves and branches are going to look like.

Step 3: Dress for the Weather!
Now it is time to dress for the weather! Ms. Baldecchi will give you a picture of weather related clothes. Think about what your tree looks like. Cut out each weather outfit. Glue the clothes on your photo. Cut out your weather dressed photo of yourself. Match the picture to the season where it fits best. Glue your picture next to the tree.
Questions to think about:
- What season are you in?
- Should you be wearing shorts in winter? Why or Why not?
- If it is Spring, would a raincoat or a light jacket be expected?
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the next 3 seasons!
- the second box move on to the season that comes after the first season. Think about the order of the seasons. What comes next and why? Repeat the steps above with boxes 2, 3 and 4 for each of the seasons.
***When you are done each box should have a different season named. The tree and how you are dressed in each box should be different than the box next to it. The seasons must go in order.***

Conclusion
Summer, fall and winter make up the 4 seasons. As the seasons change, we see changes in the weather. It is important to know how to dress for the weather and why. In the winter we see cold weather. We wear coats and hats to keep us warm. In the summer, we do not need coats and hats because the sun helps keep us warm. By dressing for the weather, we know that wearing a rain coat might be a good idea in the spring when it rains a lot.
Take it one step further! (Choose one of the following
- In your daily journal write about which season is your favorite and why! What are some of the fun activities you can do in this season?
- Make a song about your favorite season listing some of the facts you have learned.
- Put on a skit with a group of four about an activity done in a certain season.
