Exploring Landforms of Jamaica

Introduction

Jamaica is more than beaches and sunshine! Our island is made up of amazing landforms such as mountains, plains, plateaus, and valleys. These landforms affect where people live, how they travel, and the types of activities they do.

In this WebQuest, you will become a Junior Geographer and explore the different landforms found in Jamaica. By the end of this journey, you will understand how Jamaica’s landforms shape our country and our way of life.

Task

You will work in pairs to:

  1. Research four major landforms in Jamaica

  2. Identify where each landform is located

  3. Explain why each landform is important

  4. Create a visual or written presentation to share your findings

Read about landforms and their meanings:

  • Plain

  • Valley

Write short definitions in your own words.

Step 2: Explore Jamaica’s Landforms

Research the following Jamaican landforms:

  • Blue Mountains

  • Lignum Vitae Plain

  • Pedro Plains

  • Nassau Valley

  • John Crow Mountains

  • Dry Harbour Mountains

Choose four and find out:

  • Parish or location

  • Type of landform

  • One interesting fact

  • How people use the landform

Step 3: Create Your Final Product
