European Peace and Development

Introduction

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) is celebrated annually on April 6th. This day is dedicated to recognizing the potential of sport in fostering positive social change, bridging societal barriers and transcending boundaries. Established by the United Nations General Assembly, this day emphasizes sport’s vital role in advancing peace, equality, and inclusive growth.

As a growing force for social good, sport is increasingly recognized for its ability to empower disadvantaged populations and promote social inclusion, peace, and justice. The 2025 theme, “Leveling the Playing Field: Sport for Social Inclusion” highlights how sport can be a dynamic tool for tackling social issues, such as gender and racial inequality, and fostering greater inclusion for all.
