Introduction - The United Nations

Picture

Since our founding in 1946, the United Nations has sought to bring peace and understanding to the world. A major part of this goal has been our commitment to education. Educating the world is a big job, and with falling donations from our members, we had to think outside the box. This is why we hired you. We are looking to bring in bright, charismatic, young people to help us educate world citizens about our member countries. Your task will be to gather information about some of our key European members and create a presentation that we will then use throughout the world.

We are excited to be working with you and look forward to showcasing your work to the world.

Task

Welcome to the UN! Please select a position.

Here, you will select your new position within the UN. There are five (5) exciting choices.  Before you begin your job, you will need to identify what exactly it is you will be doing. Here is your task list for your first assignment:

  1.  First, your group will need to choose a country to investigate further. We have included a popular list below.
  2. After you and your coworkers have chosen a country, you will need to click on each job and read its description.
  3. Once you have chosen a job, you will gather information from the suggested sites.
  4. Finally, you will meet with your co-workers and create a PowerPoint presentation displaying all the knowledge you wish to share about your respective country.

We here at the United Nations know you will do great no matter which position you choose. Click on the "Process" tab to continue

3. Once you have identified your job, use the resources provided on each page.

If you are struggling with the research portion of this, cruise on over to the "How To" page for some video tutorials.

4. Now that you have your information, you need to focus on the creation of your "info-person." This will be used as a display in our United Nations Children's Exhibit. We understand that you are familiar with making "info-people" already, but in case you are a little rusty, check out the "How To" section for a quick tutorial video. The finished product should look like something like the example pictured to the right.

5. Great! Now you are in the home stretch. The final thing you need to do is complete a PowerPoint for your country for the education conference. We here at the United Nations make some pretty snazzy PowerPoints, so we have very high expectations.

If you need a refresher on how to make a PowerPoint presentation, check out the "How To" section for a quick tutorial on basics and some of the cooler features.
