The novel Enrique's Journey depicts the journey of a Central American boy who makes many attempts at a dangerous quest to reunite with his mother who left him to find work in the United States. Enrique faced many challenges, as well as other immigrants along side him who were also attempting this dangerous quest across the border to reach the United States.Through this assignment students will complete a variety of tasks to further understand the information they already have about the novel Enrique's Journey.

Task

Students will create a timeline that includes a minimum of ten events that took place in the novel. The timeline must include an image or illustration for each event displayed on the timeline. Students must also include an explanation (minimum of four sentences) explaining how this event was important in Enrique's journey to the U.S. Once the timeline is completed, students must choose five events from the timeline and create a map for these events. The map will need to have several components in order to properly illustrate Enrique's treacherous journey. Once both assignments are completed students are expected to present both projects to the class.

Conclusion

After completing these assignments students should hold a better understanding about immigration and an immigrant's journey's. Students will have put themselves into the shoes of Enrique and other immigrants, and will have a deeper understanding of the dangerous quests these people go through to reunite with family members, and to find a better life. This assignment was not only intended to educate students, but also for students to have a chance to have fun and enjoy throwing their own splash of perspective and creativity to really bring the journey to life.
