In this WebQuest, you will:

  • explore different endangered species
  • understand why they are endangered
  • understand how people around the world are helping to protect them

By the end, you will make a creative project advocating for an endangered animal of your choice.

Task

Your mission is to become an “Endangered Animal Advocate.” You will:

  1. Choose an endangered animal (e.g., tiger, sea turtle, panda, orangutan).

  2. Research its habitat, diet, threats, and conservation efforts.

  3. Create a project to educate others about your animal and how to help protect it.

    Examples of projects:

    • Poster or infographic

    • Digital slideshow or video

    • Diary/journal from the perspective of the animal

Before proceeding, watch the following video to better get to know what endangered animals are and what we can do to protect them:

Process

Step 1: Choose your animal

Start by picking one endangered animal that interests you present on the World Wildlife Fund website here.

Step 2: Research what you can about this animal

Look into the animal's:

  • Diet: What does it eat and how does it feed?

  • Habitat: Where does it live and in what type of environment?

  • Reason of endangerment: Why is it endangered?

  • Conservation efforts: How are people helping to save it?

Step 3: Organize the information

After being done with your research, organize the information into these categories: Diet, Habitat, Reason of endangerment, Conservation efforts.

Step 4: Choose your creative project

Choose one of the project formats mentioned earlier and start composing it using the information you gathered from your research,

Remember!! You're the animals' advocate, so your work needs to reflect the urgency of the animal's situation, so you'll be graded on how convincing your project is (including images, facts and examples...) but also for your call for action (what can everyone do to help?).

Step 5: Share your work

Present your creative project to the class after submitting it online.
