The Emancipation Proclamation

Introduction

The Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Lincoln on January 1, 1863 to free all slaves in the Confederacy but not the Union. It was until June 19, 1865 that all slaves became free, deemed, "Freedom Day".

Task

For this assignment, you will complete the following activities:

  1. Join a group to complete a final presentation on the Emancipation Proclamation on the Union or Confederacy side.
  2. You will retell the events leading up to the Emancipation Proclamation from the Union or Confederacy perspective.
  3. Your presentation must be at least 5 minutes long, include technology, audience interaction, classroom handouts, and a prepared speech.

  1. You will have the opportunity to work on your group projects daily in class.
  2. Complete the writing component of your projects.
  3. Complete the technology components of your projects.
  4. Complete the visual aspects of your projects.
  5. Finally, complete the handouts and conduct a run through of the project.

  6. Your group members will assign individual grades based on the amount of work completed.
  7. I will assign an overall group grade based on project completion and feedback from the group.

Conclusion

Upon conclusion of the project, students will learn about the causes leading to the Emancipation Proclamation and the lasting effects of its delay. Students will also learn about the vested interests that both the Confederacy and Union had in slavery and the abolition thereof.
