Introduction

Lesson 1- Getting an understanding of numbers. This lesson will be to get the students to understand numbers and what the values are of them. in this case the students will be get a math problem and they need to work out a strategy for that problem. An example of this activity is from the website Twinkl (Twinkl, 2023). This gives the students 10- 15 minutes to study the problem. https://www.twinkl.com.au/resource/year-4-number-talks-au-n-1668772591?… |
Lesson 5- Lesson five will be linked with lesson one. In lesson five the students will be finding the missing value in the addition and subtraction problems. Here are some examples Fill in the missing number. blank + 2 = 29 59 + blank = 64 16 -blank = 3 Blank- 15= 1 The students will be given work sheets to practice these math problems so they can continue to improve on their working out strategies.

Lesson 2- The next lessons aim is to work on rounding numbers up and down.
This lesson will teach students to round numbers up and down which is important when it comes to working with money and transactions. When estimating transactions, it is vital to know how to round those numbers up and get a rough idea of what something will be worth or in total.
An example of rounding will be using a worksheet with questions like round 6 798 to the nearest hundred. The answers will be in multiple choice, so the students have a few options.

Lesson 6- Lesson six is connected to lesson two. Lesson two was about teaching students how to round up and down. By ages nine and ten students are starting to learn the value of money which is important for future knowledge. In this lesson students will be given fake money and the teacher will have items on the desk with how much its worth. Students will then see how much more money they need or if they can afford more then one item. If they need more money they simply have to work out how much more money they have to ask the teacher for. If some of the items are $12.25 the students will round down to $12 and once its able $12.50 the students will round up to the nearest whole number.

Lesson 3- Lesson three’s aim is to work on estimating. Learning estimations is important as when you are out shopping, and you want to buy a few things you need to have an idea of what it is all worth and make sure you have enough money.
Activities that will help students learn estimating is word problems a great website that has lots of activities are IXL. |
Lesson 7- Lesson seven is an extension on lesson three which is estimating. Estimating is an important skill that students will need to learn. Teaching estimating to students can be done in many ways for example if the students were to go out to the shops say the students wanted to get 5 items where the prices ranged from $5 to $20. The students should use estimation to ensure they have enough money. Students should estimate around $100 just to be sure they have enough money. The teachers will use a few different items to help the students estimate certain prices of things.

Lesson 4- Lesson four’s aim is to work on everything that has been previously learnt in other lessons.
Put everything together to see if the students can use it all in a combined lesson. This lesson should have a check in point at the end to ensure all students understand what they need to be doing. Before moving onto to the next step it is vital that the students know and understand the curriculum.
Pervious activities can be used to progress in lesson four as it will be a review. Reviewing on what students have just learnt is important as they can continue to practice those new skills. |
Lesson eight and lesson four will both be reflections on what the students have learnt in pervious lessons. Check in points are important to have as teachers need to know if students need extra help with the new topics are they learning or if they are able to move on. In lesson eight the teacher will use prior knowledge from other lessons to see where the students progress is and what they need to do to continue on to the next step. Ensuring the students are understanding the curriculum and the teachers are following it is the best way to the students success.
