Elizabethan Era Research

Introduction

Through this Webquest you will discover what it was like to live in the Elizabethan Era, the time period in which Shakespeare lived and wrote his plays like Romeo and Juliet. Everything was different back then - the clothes, entertainment, education, treatment of women, hygiene, medicine, and more.

Would you have enjoyed living back then or hated it? You may shrug your shoulders now and think, "Eh, who cares?" When you're done, however, you may be surprised just how strongly you feel about the idea of in living in such a different time period.

Task

Click on each of the links (in the Process section below) to read about different aspects of the Elizabethan Era. Note interesting facts that stand out to you, whether good/cool things that would make you want to live there or bad/horrible things that would make you never want to live there.

Type your facts in the "Elizabethan Era Research Facts" handout in Schoology.

You need to write down a few facts from every website, facts that stand out to you as cool/interesting or bad/horrible. Make sure you are PARAPHRASING the facts (putting them in your own words)! If you write them down word for word and use them like that in your essay, it's plagiarism. However, don't generalize it so much that it's not a specific fact (like "Sanitation was bad.").

You will later use these facts in an argumentative research paper about life in the Elizabethan Era.
