An educational games company has invited you to design a new board game. The publishers require a game that gives Year Four, Five and Six students practice adding and subtracting fractions, finding equivalent fractions and renaming fractions as percents as fractions. 

The game will need to be challenging, fair and exciting. It also needs to incorporate elements of chance, such as dice or spinners. 

Create a game that would be appeal to Year Four, Five and Six students and meet the publisher’s requirements. 

Who knows you could make a fortune.

Draw a draft plan of a game board that meets all the publisher’s requirements. 

Construct the game and include appropriate questions or activities about the fractions. 

Write the rules and provide solutions or answers to the fraction questions or activities. 

Use the checklist to evaluate your own game as well as the game of other groups.

  1. Create a new folder called “Educational Entrepreneur” into your Maths investigation folder in your one drive.  
  1. Log into your iMaths account and open Investigation 3 “Educational Entrepreneur”.  
  1. Click on Student Pages and READ, UNDERSTAND AND PLAN your investigation.  
  1. Download and save your investigation printables to your “Educational Entrepreneur” folder.  
  1. Use this online dictionary to understand the meanings of the following words and create a glossary:-

  • checklist identifying everything the publisher requires for the game  
  • draft plan of their game board  
  • final version of their game, including a durable game board and all equipment to play the game  
  • game rules, clearly defining the rules of the game using correct spelling, punctuation and grammar  
  • evaluations of other board games in the class with constructive criticism.
