Introduction

This course gives students insight of the theorist and the impact and their importance in the role of education.Many of the theorist that I will be discussing have a significant importance and contribution to Early Childhood Education. In addition to discussing these theorist, I will be taking a look at the theories of teaching and learning as well as their impact on today’s Early Childhood Education.

Teachers Introduction

Some may be wondering who is Martin Luther,John Amos, John Locke, Lev Vygotsky and Jean Piaget ?As an Educator, we depend on many of the theories that these men Martin Luther,John Amos, John Locke, Lev Vygotsky and Jean Piaget has developed for us.These men have paved the way not only in education but also the world of Psychology, Sociology and other fields alike.Educational theories are not just ones single theory, but an umbrella of many theories.Many of the learning and teaching theories are based upon how the brain processes information(describing how knowledge is absorbed),how information is processed and how information is retained during the learning process.

 

Task

The objective of this research is to be able to:

- understand some of the most prominent theorist in education 

- be able to understand learning theories

- know the most important events that took place

- understand the impact that these men had on early childhood education 

Process

Step 1. You will work with a partner to learn about some of the leading Educational Theorist. Below I have listed a few theorist for you as an example and their contribution.

Step 2. Read text and information about this topic.

Step 3. Complete the questions below with your partner.

Step 4. Teacher will check to evaluate whether or not you have gained understanding of the topic.

I have listed some of these theorist and facts about a few of these theorist. Below you will be ale to click on the link and decide who in your opinion is the most important.

Perspective of Martin Luther of the role of education in the lives of the children (1483-1546)

  • The main purpose of education on children is to teach them

    how to read.
  • The most important role of the family is to educate their children.
  • Reading ability was considered important in gaining knowledge from the bible.
  • The community played a major role in ascertaining that all the children get educated by providing necessary support to the parents. 

The perspective of John Amos Comenius of the role of education in the lives of the children (1592-1670)

  • Education should commence in the early years to achieve a human godlike image.
  • Senses assist the children with a means of gaining information hence all education ought to be sensory.
  • Children have learning and growth timetable and therefore, education should be presented when a child is ready.
  • Pictures in the books help the children to learn the concept and names of objects.

The impact of John Amos Comenius in today’s education

  • Sensory training emphasis which is a foundational practice in Early Childhood Education.
  • Development of picture book which complemented the development of literacy.

The perspective of John Locke of the role of education in the lives of the children (1632-1704)

  • The environment influences the development of the children and who they become.
  • Children are “tabula rasa” and the environment fills the “blank slates” with knowledge.
  • The children are learning and development quality is influenced with the environment quality.

The impact of John Locke in today’s education

  • He added on the importance of well-developed sensory environment.
  • He stressed on the role of environmental design and activities in the success of children in school.
  • Emphasized to the thought that early education is to compensate an impoverished environment.

Conclusion

Hopefully you have been able to learn a lot about education and learning theories as well as the important events and people that has made it possible. Although some of these men are psychologist, they all tie in when it comes to education. In order to learn there is a learning process. When that person is not able to learn they many have a cognitive or learning problem. In respect to education and psychology, one hand washes the other.
