Introduction
Working in groups of no more than five students (preferably four), students will create an educational game or activity that involves someone who has had a great impact on a particular sport . The person must have played the sport in the past or has been playing for at least 10 years and have made a real impact on their sport. Possible examples may include (but are not limited to): Misty May-Treanor volleyball, Michael Jordan basketball, Babe Ruth baseball, Peyton Manning football, Serena Williams tennis, and David Beckham soccer.
Task
Students groups would put together a brief narrative about the person they choose and the impact they had on their sport. Then they would lead the class in a game or activity that teaches the proper mechanics for the task that the person is known for.
Process
Using the web sites we have listed below or others you may find, choose an athlete that has made an impact on a sport. Once you have chosen the athlete, research them using the internet, books, periodicals and videos to learn how they made an impact on their sport. Prepare a 5 minute narrative explaining who you choose and what impact they had on the particular sport that they played. Finally, create a game or activity to teach the class the proper mechanics of a task used in that sport.
