Introduction
You are now a drug expert and someone just asked you if drugs really do affect the body, especially your brain. Many people around the world do not understand the effects of drugs on the body. The job that you will have will be to watch the following videos and inform people about the effects on their body. You will have a month to become the expert on any of the drugs, write a paper and then make a presentation with a fellow expert about the same drug to present to the "world" (class).
Task
Begin by watching the videos that are included below this information, you will search for the titles that I provide. Once you have completed this, *hint: take notes!!!!* you will choose one of the drugs and you will become the leading expert on that drug. You will then conduct a research paper on the drug that you chose. Now that you have become an expert on the drug you will then pick a colleague that is also a leading expert and come up with a presentation to show the whole world on how this drug affects the brain and body. Your research should tell you about how the drug affects the brain and body.
Process
1. Watch and take notes on the following videos:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvFsG9gYFxY-W_QjbSiqauR33sSBr8W5O (use this set of videos and watch the ones I have listed)
~Your brain on Drugs: Marijuana
~Your brain on MDMA
~Your brain on Shrooms
~Your brain on Crack Cocaine
~Your brain on LSD and Acid
~Your brain on Fentanyl
~Your brain on Drugs: Alcohol
2. Choose your drug. Begin researching how this drug affects the body and the brain. This should be typed and at least 2 pages long. Double spaced with 12 point font which is readable. (This counts as 50% of your grade). You must include at least two sources for your information.
3. We will spend two weeks in class, working on the videos and research. This is the time in which you can work on a rough draft and turn it in to get feedback. This is not required BUT highly recommended.
4. Once you finish your essay and you feel as though you have become the expert, you will find another expert on the same drug within the classroom. You will then work together to make a presentation to the whole class about your drug and the effects that it has on the brain and body. You must include at least 7 facts, pictures, and have some kind of visual (pictures, video, powerpoint, poster, etc). This presentation should be at 5-8 minutes long.
5. You will have 1 week to work on the presentation with your partner in the classroom, the following week we will do the presentations. Each group will sign up for their time slot and day.
Evaluation
I will grade the paper with the following in mind: 3,2,1
3: the student includes a lot of information about how the drug they chose affects the brain and body, paper is typed, 12 font, and double spaced, the paper has at least 2 reputable sources.
2: the student includes some information about how the drug they chose affects the brain and body, paper is only two of these: 12 font, double spaced, typed, and the paper only has one reputable source.
1: the paper includes only a small about of information about how the drug they chose affects the brain and body, paper only includes 12 font, double spaced, and typed, and the paper does not have reputable sources.
Presentation: Students will be able to judge their partners work on the presentation which will help to get true answers. These scores could affect one or both grades. The students will get an 3 as long as they include a visual, 7 facts and meets the time for the presentation. They will receive a 2 if they only complete 2 of the tasks asked and then a 1 if they only complete one of the tasks.
Conclusion
Once we finish this month long study about the different drugs and how they affect the body, the students will be able to know about the different kinds of drugs and just what they might do if you take them. This is hopefully something that the students will carry with them and when eh temptation comes to try drugs, they know that they can affect more and are not worth the few moments of escape because the bad far out weighs the good.
