Introduction
Question: Have you ever felt super tired or sick while playing a game or doing some sort of physical activity?
Grade level: 2nd
Time Frame of Lesson: 50 minutes
Task
Purpose: I am wanting everyone in the class to learn the 5 types of foods in the MyPlate chart. This is a new concept the students will be learning.
Objective: The physically literate student will be able to recognize and categorize foods in the MyPlate chart. I hope at the end of this lesson today that all students will be able to identify the 5 types of foods in the MyPlate chart, and be able to categorize certain foods into each of the 5 categories as well.
What you are going to do: You will be going through a powerpoint explaining what exactly a MyPlate chart is, and what each part is, and what they do for the body. You will then be asked to reflect on some things that you have learned and then you will take some fun quizzes! After that you will be asked a series of questions that will cause you to thinker in a deeper sense. These questions will help you in preparing for what our next lesson will be.
Process
Today we are going to be learning about the MyPlate chart. The MyPlate chart is something we can use in order to properly label foods so we know if they are good for us to eat before physical activity or NOT. Click on the following link in order to go to the power point so we can go through what exactly a MyPlate chart is: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjWrMqfsvaCAxXGkyYFHa3tBUIQFnoECA4QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fclphs.health.mo.gov%2Flphs%2Flessonplans%2Fmyplate-for-child-care-providers.pptx&usg=AOvVaw0163xACCzA8U6WytSYiWcY&opi=89978449
After viewing the powerpoint I want you to reflect on what you have learned. We have learned what labels go into the MyPlate chart, what each part of the MyPlate chart does for us, and also how much of each food we should eat. Now, I want you to click on the following link to do a fun quizzes!

I hope you did well on the quizzes! Feel free to go through the quizzes as many times as you would like! Some questions I want to ask you to think about before you move on are:
Why do I need to know what foods do in my body?
Am I eating enough of each type of food?
Am I eating too much of a type of food?
I want you to answer these questions to yourself, and when you go home be sure to try and eat as healthy as possible so we can grow up to be big and strong!!
