Introduction
Good day Grade 12s. I warmly welcome you to your Life Sciences WebQuest. Today we will take a quest and explore on the web to discover DNA: The code of life. We will also describe the role of DNA, its allocation in the human body and the process of DNA replication. I trust that you will have fun exploring the web. Good luck.
Task
For this task you are required to work in groups of not more than 6 people, individual work will be also acceptable. Every group member is required to equally participate in the work. Your task is to create a model demonstrating DNA coding and a poster explaining your model. You will be required to make a presentation of not more than 5 minutes . Navigate to the "Process" tab and work your way through the notes and the activity in sequential order. Be sure to use the provided resources throughout this WebQuest to your advantage.
Process
Use the provided links below to access information. In your groups, allocate each member with a task, e.g. have a scribe, presenter etc. This will help you manage your time effectively. Avoid copying word for word from the sources as you will be penalized for plagiarism. Your finalized work should answer the following questions:
- What is DNA?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rv5Z8EBXwY - Where is DNA found in the human body?
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YumoHWrVbQw - Describe the role of DNA: genes and non-coding DNA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4ut72kfUJM - Describe the process of replication
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kK2zwjRV0M Complete this quiz in groups of not more than 6.

You will be given time to prepare and present during your Life
Evaluation
Your model will be marked according to the following:
| MARKS | (10-8) | (7-5) | (4-3) | (2-0) |
| Function | Structure functions extraordinarily well, holding up under atypical stresses. | Structure functions well, holding up under typical stresses | Structure functions pretty well, but deteriorates under typical stress | Fatal flaws in function with complete failure under typical stresses. |
| Scientific knowledge | Explanation by all group members indicate a clear and accurate understanding of the topic | Explanation by all group members indicate a relatively accurate understanding of the topic. | Explanations by most group members indicate relatively accurate understanding of the topic. | Explanation by several group members of the group does not illustrate much understanding of the topic. |
| Plan | Plan is neat with clear measurements and labeling for all components | Plan neat with clear measurements and labeling for most components. | Plan provides clear measurements and labeling for most components. | Plan does not show measurements clearly or is otherwise inadequately labeled. |
Conclusion
Congratulations! With the successful completion of your model and a poster, you should now have a better understanding on the functions and structure of DNA. It will be of good use to refer back to your model and poster as this will be important as we continue with this topic.

Teacher Page
I highly recommend using a WebQuest as it allows learners to easily access information and learning materials. I recommend and encourage teachers to use this web as it makes work a lot more easier, and learners can always access information and come back for revision.
