Response to Intervention

Introduction

This is the introductory lesson on Response to Intervention (RtI). These lessons are part of your daily lessons working with GED and ABE students. Knowing what tier a student is in is a vital resource in helping them achieve their goal of graduating. Also, these lessons will decrease your workload and provide the needed data for the state. Once the RtI system gets going, there will be an overall benefit for the students, instructors, and the location. You already have the skills necessary to perform all features of RtI, now is the time to be shown how. These worksheets are designed to walk you through the steps in understanding RtI and how it is used.

Task

During this introductory lesson in RtI you will successfully navigate the website and locate the section on Laws, RtI Pyramid, and the 8 Factors of RtI.
Into the personal site that you have set up, you will download each of these 3 sections.
Each section has videos, PowerPoints, audio, and/or video to explain the section.
You will work each section individually, and submit the grade in Sakai.
Each lesson requires a score of 75% to pass.

Process

Each of the three sections will provide you with knowledge on the process of RtI.
Once you have downloaded each section to your file, open each section and follow the directions.
The first; Laws, is a PowerPoint section that introduces you to the laws regarding RtI. There are PowerPoints and links to journal articles that will provide you with information about the laws that have been passed regarding RtI.
After you have gone through this section, take the Law Quiz in the Quiz section of Sakai. A score of 75% must be achieved. You will have three attempts, and the highest score will be recorded.

The second; RtI Pyramid, is designed to introduce you to the three tiers of RtI and what is in each tier. The lesson will consist of PowerPoints and links to other sites and to pages in the text that pertain to the pyramid.
After you have gone through this section, take the Pyramid Quiz in the Quiz section of Sakai. A score of 75% must be achieved. You will have three attempts, and the highest score will be recorded.

The third; is the 8 Factors of RtI. This is the list of the fundamentals of the RtI process. PowerPoints, audio, and links are in this section. This section is more detailed than the prior two and requires more attention to detail. Carefully read this section and all of the components with it.
After you have gone through this section, take the Factors Quiz in the Quiz section of Sakai. A score of 75% must be achieved. You will have three attempts, and the highest score will be recorded.

Conclusion

The first WebQuest lesson is an introduction to three of the fundamentals of RtI, the Laws, Pyramid, and Factors. These items will be used throughout the course and have a great influence in the RtI system. There are many journals that can be accessed to learn more about RtI, and the students are encouraged to review some of the ones posted.
