Introduction
Hello Class,
Today is going to be a special day! I want us all to do research on dinosaurs, not just look at the information on the dinosaurs that we already know. I want us to use different types of sources to learn more about these long-lost animals. This Webquest will be used for you to use as a digital scavenger hunt and at the end, you will report on what you learned.
ARE YOU READY???
Task
What your report needs:
1. Name of your dinosaur
2. A drawing of your dinosaur
3. When and where your dinosaur lived
4. What your dinosaur ate
5. How long was your dinosaur
As you find all the answers to your questions you will write them down on a piece of paper and turn them in at the end of class.
Process
What to Do:
You will be using the link given above to look through over 300 different dinosaurs! You can use the search engine for specific dinosaurs but because we are learning about different dinosaurs you may have never heard of we will be using The Natural History Museum's Dino Directory.
How to explore the Dino Directory:
- By letters (you can pick from A-Z, maybe even try to find one that begins with the first letter of your name)
- By the time period they lived in
- Where they lived
-What type of dinosaur are they
- What they ate
I want you to have fun with this assignment! You can choose from any of these categories to dedicate your report.

Conclusion
Today I wanted to go over science in our usual English Language Arts class to provide students with a bit of variety. I wanted to use this as an opportunity for students to dig deeper into what they already know or have been taught about dinosaurs. This digital scavenger hunt was designed to be something fun and allow the students to remember it forever! An alternative activity to help students would be to make it about their favorite dinosaur, the students can use the same Dino Directory to learn more about their favorite as well as their friends and families.

The easiest way a teacher can provide assistance with this digital scavenger hunt is to watch. This lesson is used to help allow ELLs to work on their own without the consistent need to be watched or told what to do by their teacher. The best time to interact and provide assistance is when students call for your help or you see a student is finding the task harder than their peers. The point of the activity is for them to search on their own for vital information on something they actually enjoy and find interesting.
