Ms. Flores 'The Fault in Our Stars' Class Webquest

Introduction

Welcome to Ms. Flores 'The Fault in Our Star's' Class Webquest. This Webquest is designed specifically for 11-12 ELA classes. Students are to work individually and with their assigned group. In order to complete this Webquest, students are required to have read John Green's The Fault in Our Stars.

Students → We just finished reading about John Green's book,  The Fault in Our Stars. We were introduced to the star-crossed friendship and romance of Hazel Grace and metaphor-loving Augustus Waters. Now, it is time to search a little bit deeper. We will learn a little bit more about the author, how the quote in Julius Caesar by Shakespeare ties into the title, and themes of the book are reflected in quotations. Each student is given individual tasks as well as tasks to be completed together by the group.

Task

Individually:

Each individual group member will be given a video in order to gain some background information regarding the author, John Green. Each group member is to write a a critique describing the interview. Within this critique students are to add something they learned from the interview about the novel. Additionally, each group member is to research the quote from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and how it relates to the title of John Green's novel. Each individual group member is to write at least one page discussing the quote, and how that particular quote either relates or differs to the title of The Fault in Our Stars.

As a Group:

After each team member finishes the YouTube video, you are to discuss the video amongst your entire group. What is similar about each video? What is different? Did you like it? Did you learn anything?

After each team member finishes researching the meaning behind the quotation, as a group, you are to discuss this quote in relations to the novel.

Together, you are to identify major themes (at the very least three themes) seen throughout the novel. Afterwards, each team member is to find at least one quote, different from your other team mates, which exemplifies the selected theme. Each team member is to do this for each identified theme. Collectively, you are to write why each selected quote contributes to the selected theme. Finally, you are to create or find fan art images that include the selected quote for each theme,  and create a PowerPoint, Glogster, Prezi, etc. that displays the theme with each quote that exemplifies it. Be prepared to present it to the class!

Remember, each paper needs to be typed using Times New Roman, 12 pt. font and double spaced! Also DO NOT FORGET that each paper needs to be sent via email to me.
