Introduction
Ribble and Park (2019) define digital citizenship as "constantly developing norms of appropriate, responsible, and empowered technology use."
- To lead and assist others in building positive digital experiences.
- To recognize that our actions have consequences for others.
- To participate in a manner for the common good.
The concept of digital citizenship was conceived and developed, but there were numerous points of view. Mike Ribble is one of these supporters. Ribble (2015) proposed a framework of nine elements be investigated further.
One way is the S3 Framework: Safe, Savvy, and Social (S3), consisting of three tiers of support needed and provided by digital citizens.
- Safety: highlights the importance of preventing risks and danger, and protecting oneself and others.
- Savvy: highlights the importance of lifelong learning, staying updated with the concepts and changes brought by the digital world, and educating oneself and others to make wise decisions online.
- Social: highlights the importance of respecting oneself and others in the digital world, to enable prosocial, cooperative relationships between digital citizens.
The S3 Domains and nine (9) elements of the framework are:
Be Safe – Digital Law, Digital Rights, and Responsibility and Digital Security and Privacy.
Be Savvy – Digital Etiquette, Digital Fluency, Digital Health, and Welfare.
Be Social – Digital Access, Digital Commerce, Digital Communication, and Collaboration.
Task
Students are expected to participate in all activities and follow the teacher's instructions.
- Digital Security and Privacy; Students will learn how to create a PowerPoint presentation using three apps and a strong password to protect their online information.
- Digital Fluency; Students will be asked to use the tool padlet to complete the flower parts.
Digital Communication and Collaboration; A class WhatsApp group will be formed to communicate and collaborate on a group art project based on the theme 'Mosaic.'
Process
Classroom Activities
- Digital Security and Privacy; students will be taught to create a PowerPoint presentation highlighting three apps that they
can use to protect their online information, as well as create and agree on a group password.
- Digital Fluency; students will be divided into groups and will work together to complete the flower parts using the tool padlet.
This will enhance their ability to work together.
- Digital Communication and Collaboration; A class WhatsApp group will be formed and students would use this tool to
communicate throughout the term in order to finish their group art project on 'Mosaic,' which was created by transforming Greek
structures into art pieces in the 4th century B.C.
