The Digestive System

Introduction

We have been learning about nutrition and we also delved into the process of digestion in humans but wouldn’t you like to know what happens after having a KFC Big deal or Zinger? What happens at each point along the way? If your answer is yes then this will be thrilling experience for you. We will be focusing on the movement of food throughout the digestive system from the time it enters through the mouth to when the waste is removed from the body.

Task

Once you have understood the process involved in the digestion of the food after it enters the system then you will create your very own working model of the digestive system which you will present to the class during the scheduled class time. Let’s start the journey through the alimentary canal and see what discoveries will be made! I am excited to be on this journey with you, we can do this!

Process

In order to arrive at your beautiful working model of the digestive system the following steps will be followed:

Day 1

You will read the following article and record the name of the important organs/points of the digestive system as well as what their functions are, click here to read:

Day 2

You will now draw and cut out the shape of the human on which the model will be created, you will also cut out the organs/structures that will be in the digestive system. Click here to see an image of the digestive system.

Day 3

On this day you will be required to paste on the previously cut organs on the human at the correct positions. You will then attach the tubing along with syringe as shown in the video below

Day 4

Today you will be presenting your model ensuring that you explain the purpose of each section of the digestive system and demonstrate how it works.

Evaluation

Evaluation

Your progress will be checked daily to ensure that you have completed the required tasks. The following will be used to grade your model:

Task

Marks allotted

Student’s marks

Name and function of organs in the digestive system

Conclusion

Now that we have crafted our models and presented them I am sure that we are all more informed as to how our food is digested once it is ingested. In addition you should now know the organs involved as well as their functions. The next time you’re enjoying a delicious meal you will be able to appreciate the work that the body puts in to get the nutrients from your food.

Well done guys!
