This WebQuest will take you on an adventure that Brian and Derek may have experienced.

Task

After you have browsed the links in this WebQuest and discussed the contents of each link with your group, you must create your own Rising Action to the book The River as you believe it happened.  

After each member of your group has completed his or her very own rising action, your group will share at least one of them with the class.

Finally, you must write an argument why your rising action is valid according to 1) the author's characterization of Brian and Derek, 2) the way a river behaves, and 3)any other characteristics of a river as provided in your research.

OPTION:  you may choose to create one rising action as a group if you all can agree and come to a consensus AS A GROUP!

Process

Monday:  Read chapter 12 in The River

Tuesday:  Research rivers on the Internet and the required WebQuest on DdiamondD1.com

Wednesday and Thursday:  Create a Rising Action using the Cause and Effect graphic organizer and the Plot Structure format. Discuss it in your group.  

Friday:  Write your own argument as to the validity of your Rising action as it pertains to the characterization, the setting, and any other relevant information from your discussions and notes. 

Evaluation

You will earn a grade on each of the following that you complete:

1. Group work: 1-5 points

2. Argument Essay: 25 points

3. Plot Structure Diagram: 10 points

4. Rising Action(written in paragraph form): must have five (5) cause and effects.

5.  Socratic Seminar: Circle participation

Conclusion

You will also be assessed on the ATI Progress Monitoring test you will take March 3, sepcifically the Reading Portion.  

All performance objectives that pertain to Plot, Mood, Locating Evidence, Characterization, and Argument will be reivewed for 75% understanding or higher.
