Designing a future city with a Sustainable Urban Community

Introduction

The year is 2050. Earth’s population has soared, and cities must evolve. You’ve been selected as part of a global team of young architects, scientists, and planners to design a sustainable, smart city that addresses energy, housing, transportation, food, and waste challenges. Your mission: create a blueprint for a future city that balances innovation with environmental responsibility.

Task

Your will design a model of a sustainable city using digital or physical tools. You'll present your city’s blueprint and explain how your design addresses climate resilience, social equity, and technological integration. The final product will be a multimedia presentation (slides or video) with a detailed city plan.

Process

1.Research Phase - Explore real-life examples of sustainable cities (e.g., Singapore, Curitiba, Copenhagen). Investigate renewable energy, urban farming, green transportation, and inclusive housing.

2.Design Phase - Sketch or digitally design your city. Include maps, key infrastructure, and eco-friendly technologies.

3.Develop your story - Give your city a name, motto, and backstory. How did it come to be? What problems does it solve?

4.Presentation – Prepare a 5–7 minute presentation to a panel of "UN urban planning officials" (your classmates and teacher).

Evaluation

Rubric includes creativity, feasibility, teamwork, research depth, and presentation skills.

Conclusion

By completing this task, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of urban sustainability and develop critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration skills. The future is in your hands!
