The depletion of the ozone layer

Introduction

Ozone hole is a cause of great concern. In a few years ahead it can lead to major health issues on earth if not taken care of. What can we do as global citizens on the earth to combat this problem?

Task

Students will research on the ozone hole depletion causes and effects. Efforts at domestic and international levels.They will do surveys,  awareness campaigns( making pamphlets and distributing) , collection of data and its analysis. At least 10 surveys per student to be done and the sheets of evidence to be attached in the report file.Students will find out the ways to minimise the use of Ozone Depleting substances and  to give their share of help in reducing ozone depletion.

Process

Students to divide themselves into groups of 4 to 5 students each.They should research on the topic based on the given sites and the questionnaire given below. List some of the ways to minimize or stop the use of ozone depleting  chemicals..Design the pamphlets/posters to spread awareness on the seriousness of ozone depletion due to human activites and our role in combating it. Next prepare a survey questionnaire or use the one attached below and survey at least 10 by each student in your/near by locality, analyse the data collected by all students in a team,in the form of graphical representation.Submit your work in the form of ppt of about 12-15 slides or make a report file. First page should contain index. Followed by Introduction, hypothesis, methodology, data analysis, Result/conclusion, Acknowledgement and Bibliography.There will be a class presentation of about 5 minutes by each group to be given in the class followed by the question answer session of about 2 minutes.

Conclusion

After  the presentation and completion of the project students should know about the ozone layer, its importance and the reason for its depletion. Also the   international treaty regarding the ban on  use of ozone depleting substances. Students should make sure that they make efforts to create awareness among the masses about the harmful effects of ozone depleting substances and the products which may release these  ozone depleting substances. Lets save our  Earth. Lets make effort in being Ecofriendly.

Students must be given about 15 days time where in they  can utilize saturday and sundays probably to conduct surveys after survey questionnaire is made. More the number of surveys better the inference. Classroom presentation must include their survey analysis. Standards Major CFC emitting countries have banned CFCs by 1996 and the amount of chlorine is falling now. But scientists believe that it'll take another 50 years for chlorine levels to return to their natural levels.
