Parallel and Perpendicular

Introduction

When we think parallel lines we think that we use them in geometry but have you ever thought we could use parallel lines in the real world? You can work with a partner for this webquest. Your main goal when doing this webquest is to see how we use parallel lines everyday in are life. To get you started have you ever looked at a train track and thought that the tracks were parallel. Look below at the picture. Are they parallel?

Make a separate slide to answer if this is parallel or not

Task

Today you and your partner are going to need to see how we use parallel lines in our everyday life. Have fun with this, the point of this webquest is to have fun. The objects that you find should be something that interest you! You are going to need to present to the class about what you found and explain it to them. Make this powerpoint interesting and fun! If you have any questions please ask! Have fun.

Process

You are going to be surfing the web and finding three examples of things that have parallel lines and you are also going to explain why we couldn't use this object if they lines of the object were not parallel. You are going to need to find three objects and they can be anything that are parallel so don't over think it! To give you an idea of what I'm talking about here is and expample that I did.

FootballMoving Football player

Look at this football field there yard markers are parallel to each other, Now they are parallel because they go down the field marking every ten yards. Without these 10 yard markers then the football players wouldn't be able to see where they have to run to!

There is an example of parallel lines in are real world now go try to find your own 3 examples of parallel lines in real life!

This is how you are going to be graded on your powerpoint. Remeber if you follow the rubic you will get a good grade on this webquest.

Conclusion

Once you have completed your powerponint and presented you and your fellow classmates should understand how we use parallel lines in the real world. .

Good job on your powerpoints!

Teacher Page

The reason for this webquest was to teach the cadets how we use geometry in the real world and not just in the classroom. My goal was to make this a fun learning experience for them I hoped they enjoyed it.
