Introduction
Task
1) Identify different ways of categorising data.
2) Play graph games resulting in having the ability to analyse and interpret graphs.
3) Create your own graph with the information provided.
Process
Step 1:
Watch the video on Data Handing and make notes from the link: https://youtu.be/uHRqkGXX55I
NB: Pay close attention especially to Bar Graphs
Step 2:
Analyse the data on a graph game and fill in the correct answers from the link: https://ca.ixl.com/math/grade-8/interpret-bar-graphs
Step 3:
Watch the video on Drawing Bar Graphs from the link: https://youtu.be/zGre4QViTmA
Step 4:
Draw your own Bar Graph and scan it onto Microsoft Word. Once completed, email me your Bar Graph which my email address can be found at Credits. Remember to supply labels, headings and colour to your graphs.
The information needed for your Bar Graph is:
Below is a frequency of the number of students in each grade
| Grade 8 | 180 |
| Grade 9 | 185 |
| Grade 10 | 170 |
| Grade 11 | 150 |
| Grade 12 | 130 |
DUE DATE: 9 SEPTEMBER 2022
Evaluation
Each Bar Graph will be evaluated based on the rubric below.
| Poor (1) | Okay (2) | Good (3) | Excellent (4) | Total | |
| Interpretation of the Graph | Student did not interpret the graph correctly. | The student interpreted the minimum of the graph. | The student has a fairly good interpretation of the graph. | The student has an excellent understanding and interpretation of the graph. | |
| Accuracy of the Data | There three or more data errors on the graph. | There are two data errors on the graph. | There is one data error on the graph. | All data are completely accurate and there are no errors. | |
| Title | There is no title present. | The title does not completely link with the graph. | The title does link with the graph. | The title links perfectly with the graph. | |
| Labels | Labels of the graph is not present. | Labels are present but does not link with the data. | Labels does link with the data. | Labels are clear, accurate and perfectly links with the data. | |
| Graph is neat and colourful | Graph is untidy and there is no colour. | Graph is neat but there is no colour or graph is untidy but there is colour. | Graph is neat and there is colour but more could have been added. | Graph is very neat and colourful. Lots of hard work and effort was put into this graph. |
Total: 20 Marks
Conclusion
Good Job! You have successfully completed the task and are well prepared for future tasks, tests and exams. You have learned about the different way to represent data. You have learned how to interpret Bar Graphs and any other graphs. You have also learned how to draw your own Bar Graph and represent the data given to you in the graph.
I hope you enjoyed this webquest and will refer back to it to refresh your memory. Once you get your marks back, compare graphs with a friend and see what you did well and where you can improve, and remember MATHS IS FUN!!
