Have you ever been to the ocean?  There are tons of interesting creatures that live beneath the surface of the water that we never get to see.  In the book Dark Day in the Deep Sea, a Magic Treehouse special, you willl travel with Jack and Annie and learn about all kinds of animals that live in the deep, dark sea!

You are going on a deep sea adventure with Jack and Annie.  Are you ready to discover some creatures that dont breathe air to survive?  As you read the book Dark Day in the Deep Sea, you are going to be keeping a journal of all the new and exciting animals that Jack and Annie find on their thrilling trip.  Your journal will have pictures and notes included.  You need to reaserch each new animal.  This journal will be used as your doumentation of research.

Read Chapter 1

Write in your jounrnal.  Answer the following questions using complete setences.  

  • What kinds of books do you think Jack and Annie will find in the tree house?  

  • What would you do if you found a tree house in the woods?

Jack and Annie are going to a special location this time.  It is different from any other journey that they have taken.  Where are they going?  Label the location on the map.  Also label where we live (**Hint: We live on a continent in the northern hemisphere)  Record these in your journal.  Click here for a map of the world.

 

Now its time to read Chapter 2!!

In this chapter, Jack and Annie find themselves stranded.  They meet new people.  What was the name of the ship that Jack and Annie board?  I want you to do some further research on this new ship.  Find out some characteristics and some interesting facts. What was the crew doing on this island?

Now its for chapter 3!!

Jack and Annie have been adventuring throughout the ocean.  For the next part of your journal, I want you to read an article about the ocean and write a short opinion piece on why you think the ocean is important to sea creatures and draw an illustration.

Read Chapter 4.

After you read, fill out the two pages in your journal on Octpus and Eel.  These are two creatures that live in the ocean.

Chapter 5 will prepare you for the next part of your adventure.

After you have finished reading chapter 5, complete the next two animal research pages in your journal.  These two are more tricky, so make sure you are reading carefully.  It is okay if you do not find all the information but try your best.

Now read chapters 6 and 7!! In these chapters, Jack and Annie find themselves in some trouble.  An animal has grabbed them.  Reserach this animal and another animal in the ocean and record your answers in the journal.

Read chapters 8 and 9 to discover a secret tool that Jack and Annie used to help their new friend.  What are the three rules to using this "tool."  Record these in your journal and illistrate what the object might look like.  Click Here to learn about discovery!

 

Next is Chapter 10.  Read this chapter and learn about a weapon that a sailor used to get the octopus.  When they have caught the octopus, he begins to tell them how he feels.  Write about the weapon they used in our journal.  

 

 

 

You made it to the final Chapter!  Chapter 11 wraps up the siblings adventures.  What did Jack and Annie learn from this adventure.  Write a short explanation of what they realized from going on the ship with the crew and saving the octopus?
