Introduction
“Gold! Gold in the American River!” – Sam Brannan
The year is 1848 and James Marshall discovers tiny flakes of gold at John Sutter’s Saw Mill in Coloma, California. Sutter wanted to keep it a secret but the word got out that gold was found in the American River by Sam Brannan riding around the streets of Yerba Buena spreading the word. People from all over the world are traveling to find their paycheck in the American River. You will work with a group and explore the life of a group of people during the California Gold Rush.
