Rationale:

The purpose of this task is to challenge the year 10 students to create a report on a health related issue for teenagers. The topics were chosen from the Australian Curriculum year 9/10 level, topic; personal, social and community health.

This assessment piece allows students to critically analyse issues and evaluate them. By using the WebQuest approach teachers can scaffold the learning of the students. By having different tabs students can constantly refer to them and follow the steps provided by the teacher in the specific planned order. The ability to provide the research for the students cuts down on the time they would spend sifting through information. This way they can get straight into the task and begin analysing and evaluating the information provided.

WebQuest allows Blooms Taxonomy to be executed consistently throughout. Students are required to make a list of notes to be able to remember and understand the facts of their chosen topic, they will be defining, describing, explaining and most importantly identifying the issue. As the students begin to write their reports they will be applying the information. Most importantly the goal is for students to be able to analyse and evaluate the information on their topics. To do this they will be examining, comparing, contrasting, critiquing and arguing a point. In the end when the student presents their report they will have defined and developed an understanding of the issue and can recall it to the class.

Overall this task challenges students and appropriately uses the Australian Curriculum as a guide to the assessment.
