Cults

Introduction

Today we will begin research the definition of cults and try to understand why people choose to join them

Task

To develop an understanding of cults

Process

As a group we will brainstorm what we think the term cult means. You will write this in your books and then begin the webquest.

Step one

Go to  https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cult

Read the definition and then rewrite it in your own words.

Step two

Go to https://www.thisisinsider.com/i-grew-up-in-a-cult-and-i-can-tell-you-why-normal-people-join-them-2018-3

Answer the following questions

1. Why do you think Fleur's mother joined the cult?

2. Who created the cult she was a member of?

3. List three steps used to indoctrinate people into the cult

4. Why do you think these were successful.

Now think about the book we have begun.

List anything you have noted that the text and cults have in common.

Discuss and share with at least two other class members.

Evaluation

How have your views on why people join cults changed?

Conclusion

By now you should have extended your understanding of cults. Please remember this is only a VERY brief introduction.
