Countable and Uncontable

Introduction

This webquest was made with the purpose that students learn about countable  and uncountable foods in an interactive way. Developing activities such as games with the intention of learning a more interactive food vocabulary. this webquest allows us to create and plan these activities acording to the degree in which we will theach with internet support, I also have to mention that i consult some internet sites and books in English like Empower for the realization of this site.

Task

What are countless nouns? Words like sugar and money are countless in Spanish, since we can not say "two sugars", "three monies". In English you will also find words that are not countable. Let's see the following examples:

Characteristics:

They do not have a plural form.

You can not count.

They can not be used with indeterminate items (a / an) in front of them.

They always use the verb in the singular.

Some examples of countless nouns:

Flour (flour):

Plural form: it is said flour

Can not say flours / it is not correct to say 3 flours / it is not correct to say flour.

 

Milk (milk):

Plural form: it says milk

You can not say milks / it is not correct to say 5 milks / it is not correct to say milk.

 

Snow (snow):

Plural form: it says snow

You can not say snows / it's not right to say 10 snows / it's not right to say snow.

 

Sugar (sugar):

Plural form: it says sugar

You can not say sugars / it is not correct to say 4 sugars / it is not correct to say sugar.



A noun is countable when it can be counted in units. For example, book is an accountant, because you can say:

A noun is uncountable when it can not be counted in units. For example, milk is uncountable because you can not say "one milk", "two milks", but some reference must be made, such as to the container:

Countable

They have a plural form

Example: pencils

You can use forward numbers

Example: two pencils

It can be used a / an forward

Example: a pencil

How many is used

Example: How many pencils?

Uncountable

They do not have a plural form

You can not say sugars

You can not use forward numbers

Can not say: two sugars

Can not be used a / an forward

Can not say: a sugar

How much is used

Example: How much sugar?

 

Process

They are used to ask for amounts of something.

In the case of accounting nouns, How many is applied.

If it is countless nouns, How much is used.

These expressions are always followed by a noun; then, the verb and the rest of the sentence.

How many cars do you have?

How much money do you have?

How much is also used to ask for prices.

How much is this car?

How much are the potatoes?

They are also used in a generic way to ask "how much is there". In this case, they are followed by the noun and then, is / are there.

How many cars are there?

How much money is there?

These questions are answered using There is / are, depending on whether it is singular or plural.

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

The words some and any are used. As a general rule, some is applied in affirmative sentences, while any is used in interrogative and negative sentences.

Is there any sugar?

Exception: Some are used in questions when they are offering or asking for something:

Would you like some sugar in your tea?

COUNTABLE NOUNS

These words can also be used with countable nouns ...

Is there any pencil?

Ask yourself which ones can be counted in units and which ones can not be counted.

This type of digital tools are very practical since students understand the subject in a very strong and funny way using as a main tool the webquest a digital tool that provides environments for children to learn dynamically. It is in our learning as teachers continue to use these tools. You can work with students to make classes more fun and entertain students to learn.
