Introduction

Welcome, Compound Constructors! During this WebQuest you will learn how to identify, use, and make compound words. There are videos, games, and activities that will help you learn and practice as you complete this WebQuest. Get your busy bodies ready, put your thinking caps on, and have fun!
Task
During this WebQuest you're going to pretend you're a 'Compound Constructor' who builds compound words. You're going to work independently to go through school and get your education by watching some videos about compound words and playing some games with compound words. Then, you're going to begin your job of seeing how many compound words you can build by building a tower of compound words on construction paper. Be sure to pay close attention to the videos and games as they will help you when it comes times to build your compound words.
Process
Step 1: Begin by watching the video that tells you what compound words are and gives you a few examples.
Step 2: Click below to watch another video and do some activities given on the website after the video. https://www.turtlediary.com/game/making-compound-words.html
Step 3: Click below to play one last game where you divide the compound words correctly. http://www.vocabulary.co.il/compound-words/primary/divide-the-compound-words/
Step 4: You will be graded by cutting apart the compound words worksheet and building as many compound words as you can on construction paper. Begin at the bottom of the construction paper and build the words toward the top as if you were building a tower. If you use all of the words you may begin using a pencil to write your own compound words that were not on the paper. After everyone has completed the WebQuest, the student with the most real compound words will get a small prize.
Evaluation
You will be graded on your construction activity based on the rubric below. You will see compounds words on your weekly test this week.

Conclusion
Now that you have become a master "Compound Constructor" we will work on defining compound words or explaining what the words mean. Once you're finished with the WebQuest, get your tower that you built and see if you can write the definition for each word out beside the word. You may not look in the dictionary. Break the word apart in your head to help you.

Directions for Students: You must work independently on this WebQuest. The WebQuest should take no longer than approximately 30 minutes per student. The construction paper, scissors, glue, and compound word list are all lying on the back table when you're ready for that part of the WebQuest. Please complete this part of the WebQuest at your desk independently. Your name should be on the back of the construction paper. Once all WebQuests have been completed and graded we will evaluate each tower to see who gets the prize for having the tallest and we will share our words we built with our classmates.
