Composing an Argumentative Essay

Introduction

Hi, students! In our daily lives, we often find some news about the government's policy that may be felt wrong or right. The policy often causes debate in the society. However, instead of speaking and debating with others, we can argue our arguments about certain topic through writing an argumentative essay.

Argumentative essay is a kind of writing that requires an investigation of a topic, generating and evaluating evidence; and establishing a position on the topic briefly. The aim of this text is to persuade the readers so that the readers agree with the writers argument. 

Task

Please make an argumentative essay which talks about Indonesian government policy of implementing e-voting in the president election 2019.

It must consist of minimum 5 paragraphs, including an introductory paragraph containing thesis statement, three body paragraphs containing your arguments, and a conclusion.

Thus, at the end of this session, you are hoped to have a piece of argumentative essay about the topic given.

2. Collecting Ideas

Now that you have read and watched related sources about the topic, you can start collecting your ideas about the topic from both pro and contra sides.

 

3. Deciding your Side and Making your Drafts

As you already have collected ideas about the topic, now you can decide whether you will agree with the policy of using e-voting for the president election in 2019 or not. Then, you can start making your draft.

 

4. Reviewing and Revising 

As you just finished your draft, you can start reading it again to see whether there are things to revise or mistakes to correct.

 

5. Proof-reading

As a final step, you may want to ask your classmates to read your work and ask them to see whether there are other things that are still need revision.

 

As you finish your work, you can submit your work to the teacher on the next meeting on 7th of November 2018.
