The Community Livelihood & Eco-Product Launch

Introduction

Welcome to the team! A rural community of skilled artisans creates beautiful, handcrafted eco-products using local, sustainable materials. While their craftsmanship is extraordinary, they face a major hurdle: their traditional local market is shrinking, and they lack the digital strategy needed to reach buyers online.

Without a modern business plan, these unique cultural crafts risk fading away, leaving local families without a sustainable income. Your team of business consultants has been hired to step in. You will analyze market trends, calculate production costs, design an attractive digital brand, and build a marketing strategy that launches their eco-friendly products into the modern online marketplace. Are you ready to empower local artisans through sustainable entrepreneurship?

Task

WHAT YOU WILL DO AND PRODUCE

Working as a team of four in a specialized consulting agency, your group will develop a comprehensive Digital Market Launch Strategy for a handcrafted eco-product (such as woven plant-fiber bags, upcycled accessories, or bamboo household goods).

By the end of this project, your agency will deliver two core outputs:

1. Mini Business Plan (3–4 pages): A structured strategic report containing target market demographics, competitor analysis, unit-cost calculations ensuring fair trade wages, brand guidelines, and a 30-day promotional roadmap.

2. Digital Pitch Deck & Presentation (5 Minutes): A 6 to 8-slide pitch presentation outlining your brand identity, product visual mockups, financial break-even projections, and sample social media launch content. Your team will present this pitch to a panel acting as community stakeholders and investors.

Process

STEP-BY-STEP WORKFLOW & ROLE ASSIGNMENTS

PHASE 1: TEAM FORMATION & ROLE SELECTION

Form a group of 4 students. Each member will choose ONE specialized consultant role:

• Market Researcher: Investigates consumer trends, target demographics, and competitor strategies.

 • Financial Analyst: Calculates production costs, fair trade labor rates, shipping margins, and retail pricing.

 • Product & Brand Designer: Establishes brand identity (logo, story, color palette) and designs product and packaging mockups.

• Social Media Manager: Builds a 30-day digital marketing launch campaign and designs sample promotional posts.

PHASE 2: EXECUTION BY ROLE

2. Build a Target Customer Persona (age, income level, personal values, online shopping habits).

3. Write a compelling Unique Selling Proposition (USP) explaining why consumers should support this local artisan craft.

Role 2: Financial Analyst Tasks

1. Draft a complete Unit Cost Sheet including: - Raw material expenses per unit - Fair trade artisan labor payout per unit - Sustainable packaging and shipping estimates

2. Determine final Wholesale and Retail prices that ensure profitability while remaining competitive.

3. Calculate the Break-Even Volume (how many units must be sold per month to cover fixed costs).

Role 3: Product & Brand Designer Tasks

1. Design a brand logo and select a cohesive brand color palette using Canva or Coolors.co.

2. Create a visual mockup or digital sketch of the final product with dimensions and features.

3. Design a eco-friendly packaging concept, including hangtags that tell the story of the community artisans.

Role 4: Social Media Manager Tasks

1. Choose the 2 most effective social platforms for your target audience (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest).

 2. Design 3 original sample launch posts (1 educational reel/video script on craft history, 1 product spotlight post, 1 launch discount offer).

 3. Outline a 4-week promotional content calendar leading up to opening day.

 PHASE 3: SYNTHESIS & PRESENTATION

1. Combine individual findings into the single Mini Business Plan report.

 2. Assemble the 5-Minute Pitch Deck, ensuring every team member presents their role's findings equally.

3. Review your deliverables against the Evaluation Rubric before final submission.
