Introduction
A community is a group of people living in the same place. So what is a community helper? A community helper is a group of people who assists with the wellbeing of our community. There are community helpers everywhere even in our neighborhood. These people include nurses, dentists, firemen, school bus drivers, and policemen. There are construction workers who keeps our roads safe, there is the health food inspectors who makes sure restaurants are serving the people good healthy meals, military workers who keeps our country safe to live in. Many occupations fall into community helpers category. Just about everyone can be a community helper to make a better place for us to live in.
Task
In this lesson, you will be able to identify different types of community helpers and describe what it is they do. We will create a play of neighborhood helpers to share what we have learned.
Process
The teacher and students will discuss different community helpers and what their roles play to our neighborhood and we will list this on the board. The teacher and students will watch a short video on how we could help our community. The students will choose 1 community helper of their choice to demonstrate. Students will go to the theater in our classroom and find the clothes they will need for their character, they will then tell the class what they are and the items they need to do their job, they will then tell us how they can help our community in any way. For the students who have difficulty speaking, the teacher will provide pictures to help assist children with their description of their community helper

As a teacher will children with different backgrounds it is important to teach them how they can help their community. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to visit and engage with some of our community helpers like doctors, and our local garbage collectors. My classroom is right next to the garbage bin and every time the garbage man comes the kids race to the window and wave to show appreciation. He looks forward to it and he even blows at them when he is done. We are thankful for everyone who helps in our community!
