COMING OF AGE

Introduction

Coming of age is a very important part of every young person's life. For example, in our country, for the 18th birthday most young people throw a huge party.  Depending on the culture, this event can be celebrated in different ways, some of them being unusual to us.

 

Task

Your task is going to be to do a research of different ways in which coming of age is celebrated worldwide. After that, you will make a presentation about what you have learned.

Process

  • In order to do the task, you have to do the research. There is a lot of useful materials on the internet. Some of the useful links are on Teacher page here.
  • Choose a few ceremonies (3-5) that are most interesting for you.
  • Save and store some photos.
  • Make a presentation (either on a poster or in PowerPoint) 
  • Be sure to write down your own impressions about the topic and the things you found fascinating, strange, scary etc.

Evaluation

The presentations will be evaluated according to:

  • the content
  • literary and grammatical accuracy
  • design of the presentation.

Every category has four levels of achievement: satisfactory, good, very good and excellent.

At the end of this task, you have learned a lot about different ways for becoming of age worldwide, using the sources from the Internet.  You have also practiced making a multimedia presentation and your verbal skills.
