Cognitive Psychology, Behaviorism, & Social Cognitive Theory

Introduction

Welcome, Students!

Have you ever wondered what causes us to think and behave the way that we do sometimes?

Well, it deals with psychology and the way that your brain takes in information and remembers things. Today you will be learning all about it and doing some of your own research to find out the different theories related to this! I would like you to research the following:

  • Cognitive Psychology
  • Behaviorism
  • Social Cognitive Theory
Task

For this activity, you will be creating a poster board with the information you have found from your research.

On your poster board, you should include:

- Definitions of each. (if quoted directly, please cite with title of article)

- Example(s) of each in a real life experience.

- Are any of them similar?

- Who are the influential figures behind them?

- What are the key concepts of each?

Not required, BUT any type of visual that could relate to the theory would add a nice touch to your poster.

Process

As stated in the introduction, you will be researching: Cognitive Psychology, Behaviorism, and Social Cognitive Theory. This will be done by using websites found on your own or using the ones I have provided below. I will also give you a short definition of each one, but you may NOT use my definition.

These are just a few websites that may help you out with your research, you are welcome to find your own websites.

After you have completed all of your research you may begin on your poster board. Please take your time, make it appealing, and get creative!

Conclusion

Good job!!

You should now have a good understanding of the ideas of Cognitive Psychology, Behaviorism, and Social Cognitive Theory. All of these ideas give us a clear picture of why we do the things that we do. It helps us in all aspects of life and ultimately helps us make most of the choices in our lives.

If you would like to further your research consider these questions:

Which theory do you believe applies to you the most?

How do teachers use these theories in the classroom?

Is there another theory out there that you think is more realistic?

Whether or not you continue your research, the information you have learned could be used in many different scenarios such as: predicting how someone will react, fields of industry, understand people better, etc.

Another plus is that you have a poster now you can share with anyone and show off your newfound knowledge in psychology.
