Where are the lost tribes?

Introduction

Get ready!

You are about to begin a journey into the past.  As you travel back to the very beginnings of human civilization in the southeastern regions of North America, the area now known as Florida, you will learn about a way of life that no longer exists.  You are about to go in search of the lost tribes of Florida, to discover how they lived, and why they died.  Your explorations will take you to a world where survival was a full-time task. Prepare to reverse the sands of time…good luck!

Task

The Task

As you begin your journey into Florida’s past, you will be assigned to one of five tribes.  You will be part of a group where each member will assume a different role. You will use the Internet to research your particular role.  Upon completion of the research, your team will create a Powerpoint or Photo Story to portray the essence of tribal life so long ago.  You will then work cooperatively with your group to create an oral presentation. It is your task to effectively teach your classmates about your tribe.

Process

The Process

Once each member of your group has researched the information needed by clicking on the many links provided, you will meet and share what you have learned using Google docs.  You will then cooperatively decide how best to creatively and clearly display the results of your work in your presentation.    You should write and practice your parts, being sure to speak loudly and clearly.  You should be prepared to answer any questions that may follow your presentation.  As a part of your group’s conclusion, be sure to tell when and why your tribe died out.

Each member of your team must choose a different role from those below.

Shelter Specialist

Clothier

Nutirionist

Culturist

Technology Specialist
