Clothing in 1922, Fashion or Flunk?

Introduction

The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald set in the summer of 1922 following the lavish lives of select individuals living in East and West Egg New York. During this time period is when many new clothing trends (predominately for women) came about and were considered scandalous. Fashion for the rich during this time was also very flashy and luxurious, with women being adorned with pearls and diamonds whilst men were often seen wearing gold watches and cuff-links. The traditional view of fashion was women to be modest in large ankle-length dresses and men to be wearing a suit and tie; however this all began to change in what is considered "the roaring twenties".
