~We are going to be reading a cute book today in class. It is going to be about cows, and how cows can type! THAT IS CRAZY!! Do you think cows can type? Lets find out together as we will read the book and do some fun activities along the way! Let's get started! :)
~The first thing we are going to do today is read the story Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type! So go ahead and sit somewhere comfortable and be ready to listen to the story!
Please read along to the audio of this incredible story! You do not want to miss out on what the cows and other farm animals have to say to Farmer Brown!
Before reading, I would love for you to talk to an adult about these following questions! When you have answered all these questions, you may start listening to the audio book!
1.What are some ways humans communicate with each other?
2.What are some ways animals communicate with each other?
3.Do you have any pets? If so, how do you know when a pet wants/needs something?
4.What would it be like if animals could talk? What might a horse or chicken have to say to us?

Task
The students will be able to retell the story, including key details and demonstrate their understanding of the book.
This activity is going to be interesting and fun for all the students. The students will be able to understand the book and being able to make up some activities along the way. I want the students to feel comfortable doing these activities and being able to express their creativity along the way. The objective will be interesting to see what the students will come up with by reading the book. They will be able to tell the key details from the book we read and being able to create their own book using their own farm animals in their story.
Standard: 1.RL.2. -> Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson.
Objective -> Students will be able to retell the story and being able to tell me what the lesson is about for this specific story.
Grade Level -> 1st Grade
Students are going to be making their own cow mask for this activity. I want them to be creative with it. I will attach a worksheet along with them for them to do, while making sure they understood the book. When they have finished these task, please put them back into the baggie. I want to see all their creative work and to make sure they understand the key details from today.
Process
Materials Needed:
- Paper plate
- Pink Construction Paper
- Black Paint
- Googly Eyes
- Sharpie
- Popsicle Stick
(These items should already be in your take-home bag, I have made for everyone. If you look inside it, I have supplied all the materials needed for this activity. Please go ahead and grab your take-home bag and take a look inside it!)
After the student has read the book a few times, I would like them to go sit at a desk and get the materials out. I want them to create a "cow" with the materials given to them above. All the materials are listed above should all be in the baggies. The student's job is to make their own cow, while understanding the key details from the story. This is a great time to go over farm animals with your student.
Below, I have attached a example of what their cow should look like. However, they can make the design anything they would like! I want them to be creative. When they have finished this task, please put it back in the baggie and make sure they bring it back tomorrow when I see them in class. I want to see their creativity skills and see all the cute cows they created at home!

YAY! I am so proud of all of you for doing this fun activity. I can't wait to see all your cow mask and hang them up around the room tomorrow! We are almost done for the day, but I have attached the 2 worksheets along with this activity. It won't take you long to fill out! These worksheets are going to be super fun!
PS: Parents these worksheets are in their weekly folders on the "Take Home Side". When completed please put them on the "School Side". These 2 assignments are going to be interesting, I want your child to write a letter to Farm Brown. This is supposed to be creative, I would like your child to "rely" to the book. They should pick an farm animal, and tell Farmer Brown what they "need". For example, the cows needed a blanket. Have them come up with something unique for this letter.
The second paper, is a graphic organizer for them to understand the book. Please refer back to the book as many times to make sure they understand the statement. When they are finished with these THREE activities please place them back where you found them. Please don't be hesitate to email me, I would love to help!
