Introduction
Classification is the grouping of organisms according to their similarities or shared characteristics. Scientists use a system of classification to organise living organisms by the way they look, eat, move, grow, change and reproduce.
There are many different systems of classification that came up with many biologists and scientists.
Below are biologists who came up with how living organisms should be classified.
1. Aristotle classified all living organisms into Two kingdom systems.
- kingdom Plantae
- kingdom Animalia
2. Carolus Linnaeus established a hierarchical system to classify living organisms, from simple to complex.
3. Robert Whittaker developed the Five kingdom system to classify living organisms.
- Kingdom Monera
- kingdom Protista
- Kingdom Mycota
- Kingdom Plantae
- Kingdom Animalia
4. Dr Carl Woese came up with the Three domain system which contains kingdoms in each domain.
- Eubacteria
- Archaea
- Eukarya
Task
You are going to create a poster on PowerPoint classifying living organisms using Robert Whittaker’s Five kingdom system of classification. Your poster must include at least 2 examples of organisms under each kingdom, describe the organism’s major characteristics (e.g., eukaryotic or prokaryotic) and explain the method of nutrition and method of reproduction of the organisms.
Main objectives of this task are to:
- help you understand how living organisms are classified.
- identify organisms under each kingdom.
- determine whether these organisms are prokaryotes or eukaryotes
- determine major characteristics of organisms under each kingdom.
Due 23 September 2022
Be creative!
Your poster must be visually appealing.
Use your textbook and the links provided to complete this task.
Process
Steps to follow when creating the poster
- Open Microsoft PowerPoint on your computer.
- Go to the file option then select new then select blank presentation.
- Click on the design option then page setup/ slide size.
- Adjust page size to your preference between medium size (18x24) and large size (24x36).
- Click on the text boxes and delete them.
Now you are ready to create your poster.
Make your poster visually appealing and eye caching.
