Class I Shrunk Ourselves!

Introduction

Oh no class! The science teacher was experimenting and made a machine that he thought would make things bigger like food to feed more people. His machine went crazy while we were passing his room zapped us and shrunk us to a tenth of our size. The science teacher said he will find a way to reverse the effect, but he won't finish until summer! We need to still have class so it's your job to find the correct measurements for our classroom and furniture needed to conduct class (desks, chairs, boards, closets, shelves, etc.).

Task

You will need to do complete four tasks in groups of 4 to complete this project.

Task 1: Find original measurements

You will need to first find the measurements of the original classroom. You will be given yard sticks and measuring tape to find the original measurements of classroom dimensions, furniture dimensions and measurements for each other.

Task 2: Convert measurements to compliment new classroom

You will then use your knowledge of ratios to find the new measurements if everything needs to be shrunk to a tenth of the original size.

Task 3: Build new classroom

Once you have the new measurements for the shrunken class, your group must construct our new classroom. You must provide work on how you arrived at the new measurements.

For the classroom:

You can use foam poster board to create the walls and floor for the new miniature classroom.

 For the furniture:

You can use a variety of materials like play-dough, clay, cardstock paper or anything you see best use.

*You cannot simply buy toy furniture since the dimension must be an accurate representation of a tenth of the original measurement*

Task 4: Build yourself

The last task you must complete is building a figure that represents you. This task will be done individually since each person has different body dimensions. You must have an accurate proportion arms, legs, head, and height.

To build:

To make the new figure you will be able to use wire(provided) to make the frame for your figure. Then you will able to use plaster paper or clay to make the form.

Process

You will first decide on group members and a group name.

Task 1:

Your group will divide the work on who will measure the class dimensions, who will measure the desks and chairs, who will measure two more things your group will want to include in your final model and someone to record all the measurements.

Each member will measure each other's height, limb lengths and record them on their own sheet.

Once your group has recorded all the measurements needed, you will need to make each measurement into inches to have the ratios all be proportionate.
