Chest Pass in Basketball.

Introduction

Students will learn the importance of the chest pass in basketball and how it is used in games situations. Students will demonstrate the correct techniques when executing the chest pass. Student will work willingly in groups and explain the coaching points while demonstrating the skill.

Task

Students will use online resources to learn about the chest pass to learn about the chest pass and its importance in basketball.

Students will state the varying coaching points associated with the chest pass.

Students will able to practice and demonstrate the chest pass during individually and collaboratively.

Process

Vocabulary Terms: Chest Pass, Follow Through, Accuracy, Target

Students will be able to watch video videos that demonstrate and explain the correct technique of the chest pass along with instructions on how to execute it properly.

Students will then identify and list the key coaching points of the chest pass.

  • Hold the ball at chest level.
  • Step forward with one foot.
  • Push the ball with both hands.
  • Extend arms fully.
  • Follow through with thumbs pointing down. 

Activity1: Partner Passing Drill

Students will work in pairs and stand 2-3 meters apart. They will perform the chest pass to each other, focusing on accuracy and proper technique.

  1. Students will form pairs.
  2. Stand2-3 meters apart.
  3. Perform 3-4 chest passes back and forth for 1 minute.
  4. Count the number of accurate passes.

Focus Point

Step forward when passing.

Keep elbows out.

Follow through with thumb down.

Activity2: Target Game

Students will aim to hit a target ( cone or marker) using the chest pass. Points will be awarded for accuracy.

Students will practice these activities both individually and in groups while receiving feedback from peer and teacher.

  1. Set up cones or markers as target.
  2. Student aim to hit the targets using a chest pass.
  3. Each successful hit earn 1 point.
  4. Students compete in small groups.

Goal: Improve accuracy and control wile making the activity fun and competitive.

Mini Game:

Students will participate in a short passing game where they must only chest pass to move the ball.

Rule: No dribbling , only passing

This helps students to apply the skill in a real game situation.
