Chemical Changes

Introduction

                                Chemical Changes
A WebQuest for 8th Grade Science

                                                             Designed by
                                                             Keira Green

A chemical change occurs when a reaction causes the chemical composition of an object to change. But how are chemical and physical changes different? And how do you tell them apart easily?

Task

By the end of this webquest you should be able to identify what the differences are between physical, and more importantly, chemical changes and be able to use that information to make a creative work. For example you could design an invention that uses a chemical and or physical change, you could create an art piece showing various forms of chemical changes. You could create a story with chemical change or even create a video of you giving a crash course on chemical change!

The requirments: You have to define chemical and physical change and list 5 examples each for physical and chemical change.

These can be created using paper, canvas, google slides, imovie or google docs . Any other tool should be approved by me.

Process
  • First of all, you will be working alone on this project.
  • Second, watch this video on chemical changes- link
  • Third, watch this video which will explain the differences between physical and chemical changes- link
  • Next, follow along with this activity- link
  • Now you should decide which activity stated in the 'task' section you want to do, any other activities should be approved by me.

I can define a chemical change

I can barely define a chemical change.  I can almost  define a chemical change. I am very close  to correctly defining a chemical change.  I can correctly define a chemical change.
I can define a physical change  I can barely define a physical change.  I can almost  define a physical change. I am very close  to correctly defining a physical change.  I can correctly define a physical change.
I can list 5 examples of both chemical and physical changes I can correctly list 2 examples of both chemical and physical changes. I can correctly list  3 examples of both chemical and physical changes. I can correctly list 4 examples of both chemical and physical changes. I can correctly list all 5 examples of both chemical and physical changes.
I know the difference between chemical and physical changes. I barely know  the difference between chemical and physical changes. I'm almost close to knowing the difference between chemical and physical changes. I'm very close to knowing the difference between chemical and physical changes. Conclusion

By now you should be able to identify what the differences are between physical, and more importantly, chemical changes. Third, you should also be able to use that information to make a creative work. Most importantly you should thouroughly understand chemical and physical change by the end of your project.
