Introduction
Todays lesson will help you to understand the characteristics of early civilizations. You will be able to apply what you have learned and make a proposal to a museum for a new Paleolithic to the modern era exhibit.
Task
- Analyze: Visit the National Geographic website to learn about the common characteristics of early civilizations. Next create a blue print of a civilization.
- Evaluate: In groups discuss how the development of civilizations created new inequalities. As a group write a "historical memo" advising a fictional leader about issues that may arise in the developing society.
- Propose: Create a Google slide presentation to suggest an a new exhibit to a museum.
Process
- Visit the National Geographic Museum https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/early-agricultural-communities/ to learn about characteristics of early civilizations.
- Create a "Blueprint" by choosing a civilization such as Mesopotamia or Egypt and outline how it fulfilled each of the characteristics.
- In groups discuss how the development of civilization created new inequalities.
- As a group write a "historical Memo" to a fictional leader of an early civilization advising them on how to address a social issue that might arise from the new complex way of life.
- Create a Google slide presentation for a proposal for a new museum exhibit. Your presentation must outline the Paleolithic Era, the Neolithic Revolution, and Early Civilization. For each section you must describe the key features and advancements. Next you must select one artifact to represent the era and justify why you included it. Each section must also include a one-paragraph explaining the different perspectives of the people of that era.
