Introduction
Cells have many ways to help people. They are a very important part of the body, seeing as they make up the entire thing. Cells take in nutrients and provide body structure. Cells convert nutrients into energy while also carrying out certain tasks.
Task
- What do researchers think is one cause of memory impairment related to growing older? What does new research show that may be able to help reverse this process.
- How may fat cells be able to help people with spinal cord injuries?
- How are frog eggs being used in research involving human cells?
- What are Schwann cells? How are they affected in multiple sclerosis patients?
- What role do cells play in preventing the stomach from digesting itself?
Process
- Older humans blood flow towards the brain is less than others, causing memory loss?
- Fat cells can make tissues to support the spinal cord, helping it.
- Immature frog eggs can rejuvenate old human cells.
- Schwann cells are a type of stem cell. Schwann cells surrounding neurons protect the degeneration of nerves by blocking blood clotting proteins that can damage nerves, such as thrombin.
- The stomach doesn’t digest itself because Epithial cells produce mucus to create a barrier between the stomach and its contents.
Evaluation
How might fat cells be able to help people with spinal cord injuries?:
To reiterate, fat cells are able to help people with spinal injuries because they are able to produce supporting tissue. Adipose tissue is (created by fat cells) a connective tissue specialized to contain large globals of fat, inside a structural network of fibers. It’s main role is to serve as an energy reservoir, but it has many other uses too. On the other hand this tissue is found mainly under the skin but also deposits between the muscles. The fat used for this is mainly produced in the body and helps support the spinal cord.
Conclusion
Throughout this we have learned many things about cells. We have learned that scientists believe memory loss is related to age. We have learned that fat cells can make tissues, that can support the spinal cord. Additionally we have learned about frog eggs revitalizing human cells. Also, that Schwann cells are a type of stem cell, and lastly that mucus helps prevent the stomach from digesting its contents. In conclusion cells can help people in various ways, and there are many things to learn about them.
