Introduction

You are about to see a world that is all around you, and yet so small that you probably have never seen it before. What is this world? It is the world inside your body, and inside the bodies of all living things. It is the world of the cell.
All living things are made up of tiny building blocks called cells. Inside each of these cells are smaller parts that work together to keep organisms alive. Plant cells and animal cells contain some of the same parts, but each also has some unique functions.
Task

In this lesson, you will observe some plant and animal cells by looking at pictures of them and some real specimens. You will learn more about the different parts of a cell. You will observe the cells and state the similarities and difference between a plant and animal cells.
Process
1) Click on the link below to watch a video on "Introduction to Cells".
2) Look at the pictures of some cells below. Are you able to classify them? Are you able to state the similarities and differences between them?

3) Learn about the characteristics of a plant cell and an animal cell by watching the videos and going through the links below.

4) Fill in the table on the conclusion part of your Science WB pg. 21.
5) Stations with different microscopic specimens will be set up. In your groups of four, move from one station to another to observe the specimens by using the microscope. Take note of the different parts of the cells.
6) Make a drawing of an animal cell (cheek) and a plant cell (leaf) on your Science WB pg. 21.
Conclusion

Thank you for your hard work! Now, you should be able to identify the parts of a plant and animal cell, and state the functions of each part of the cells.
